Bread
As you can imagine, BREAD is the hardest to replicate as GF and even come close to the gluten-full version. Since my daughter was diagnosed at 20 years old, she knew/remembers how the full on gluten bread tastes. We have tried countless brands of all kinds of breads. In this post, I will detail the different kinds we have tried and what we like.
Sliced Sandwich:
Schar Sourdough Sliced bread is the best for sandwich bread. Sandwich bread seems to be dry and crumbly. It also tends to be on the smaller side. Schar is available in most grocery stores and so far it is the best we’ve tried.
O'Doughs Sandwich Bread is also very good.
Hamburger Buns:
O’Dough’s is our favorite (near us in Maryland, Wegman’s is the grocer we can find this brand)
Udi’s is the second fav if you cannot find O’Dough’s
Baguettes:
We feel Greenlite is the best. You can find them in the frozen section. They are simple with a quick heat up time. They have the gluten-full chewiness you crave and they are very tasty! We use them for apps requiring breads to side dishes requiring bread on the top.
Hawaiian Sweet Rolls:
We were on our way back from a SC vacay and my daughter asked if we could stop at a GF bakery in NC. We did. It was funny because they did not have much of a storefront. When you looked in the back however …..massive kitchen. They do a ton of mailorder. We thought their Hawaiian sweet rolls were to die for!!!!! We ordered a bunch and put the out at Thanksgiving this year. The are so good ……. JP’s Pastries
Bagels:
For store bought…….O’Dough’s are pretty good. Note they are Bagel Thins.
OUR FAV is a mail order or a visit to NYC —— MODERN. My MIL just texted me today that she saw them on GMA this morning (12/28/2024) and they expect to be in stores soon. Until then, you need to visit Modern in NYC or order for delivery. They really are ALL THAT!
Udi’s bagels are decent if you need bagels sooner than a mail order delivery can accommodate. Wegman’s and most grocers have then in the freezer section.
