Pretzels

Snyder's GF pretzels are the best in our opinion! Wegman’s always has them. Giant sometimes has them in stock.

Pancakes

Boxed Mix: King Arthur has a boxed mix that is really good. Around the holidays Trader Joe’s carries a GF pumpkin boxed pancake mix that is REALLY good.

Condensed Soups

Campbell’s GF condensed soups have the best consistency and taste. They are new to the market we think because we saw them for the first time before the 2024 Holiday season. They seem to be in most grocery stores. Pacific also carries GF condesnsed soups. We don’t like the consistency of these as much. Progresso also carries GF soups an we have used their GF Cream of Mushroom (not condensed) in a pinch when we couldn’t find the condensed GF versions.

Crackers

Multiple flour crackers: Lance has a cracker that uses multiple flours (rice, potato, tapioca). It looks like Ritz crackers. It is the best cracker trying to mimic normal gluten filled crackers in our opinion.

Rice crackers: Good Thins is a good brand.  We used Absolutely recently and it was good.

Almond Flour: Simple is the best for almond flour crackers and they have several shapes and flavors for choose from.

Grocery Items

Here we will list our favorite brand for each item and list where we can usually find it.

Bread

Baguettes: Greenlite Classic Gluten Free Rustic Baguettes are the best. Schar baguettes in the pillow pack can substituted if you can’t find the greenlite. Greenlite is more moist. Greenlite can be found at Wegman’s in the freezer section and Schar pillow packed breads can be found at mostgrocery stores in the GF aisle.

Sliced Bread: Sliced sandwich bread is tough. It tends to be dry, crumbley, and on the small side. Schar Sour Dough Sliced bread is the best in our opinion.

Hamburger Buns: Udi’s

English Muffins: Glutino is pretty good

Bagels: The best are from Modern in NYC. They are amazing. You can order them on line for delivery. They may be sold in stores soon!

Tortillas: Mission has pretty good GF tortillas you can use in place of the flour ones. If you like corn tortillas, most of the those are already GF.

Biscuits: Red Lobster makes a GF version they sell in the box at the grocery store. It is AMAZING. You would have no idea it is GF.

Croutons: Gillian’s is the best! It is GF bread croutons and the most like regular. There aer Quinoa croutons that are GF also. We like them but they are very different than normal croutons.

Sauces

Soy/Tamari: Any GF Soy Sauce is fine. Tamari is a higher quality soy sauce but it is not always GF so just make sure your sauce has GF on the label.

Gochujang: You can get this GF on Amazon (this is in my Bulgogi recipe)

Pizza

Dough: Trader Joe’s has a good GF pizza dough in a bag. You roll it out and shape it.

Frozen Pizzas:

Stuffing

Boxed: Gillian’s brand has the BEST stuffing!!! We used Trader Joe’s in 2023 and it was good but the stuffing we found in Wegman’s from Gillian’s was the most like its gluten filled counterpart!

Gravy

Carton: McCormick’s has a GF Turkey Gravy in a carton. It was very good!!!

Make your own: When we make our own we use GF King Arthur to thicken it. We like it better than using corn starch to thicken.

Flour

KING ARTHUR: King Arthurs GF measure for measure flour is the most like real flour for baking. (I tried GF Jules and Bob's Red Mill but the constancy was just off on those in baked good in my opinion. Bob's leaves an after taste too. Most stores near us carry King Arthur 1:1 flour now.  All GF flours are blends and they are all different. Supposedly King Arthur is the lowest quality ingredients but we have found replacing regular flour in our favorite baked goods with King Arthur tastes most like non-gf version.

Helpful hint: GF flour needs more moisture so up the moisture in your recipes with replacing the gluten four with the GF measure for measure flour.

Pasta

Boxed Pasta: Jovial is our favorite pasta! It is the most like its gluten counterpart in taste and texture. Dellalo also has very good GF pasta.

Mac and Cheese

Frozen: Trader Joe’s has a frozen mac and cheese that is pretty good.

Boxed: Jovial has a GF boxed Mac and Cheese that is good. Kraft has also come out with a boxed GF mac and cheese that we like a lot.

Cakes/CupCakes/Brownies

Boxed Mix: King Arthur has a boxed mixes that is really good. We use their cake mixes and brownie mix.

Breaded Fish Filets

B - where do we get the breaded fish fillets from Wegmann's or Traders?

Broth and Stocks

Surprisingly, not all broths and stocks are GF! Make sure you check the labels. Swanson is not GF. We typically use Pacific Stocks and Broths. Also Kettle & Fire has GF flavored broths.

French Fried Onions

The only thing we use these for is Green Bean Casserole! We need them several times a year at gatherings. For these, our favorite brand is

Cheese

Slices: No processed American cheese. For cheese slices fro sandwiches, choose a pre-packaged cheddar that says GF on it.

Shredded: Check on the bag if you are purchasing already shredded cheeses to make sure they are GF.
